Hundreds of people have been unable to cast their votes for the NSW election at pre-poll centres or online because of a computer glitch nswvotes | EstherHjHan

Hundreds of people have been unable to cast their votes for the NSW election at pre-poll centres or online through iVote because of a computer glitch.

The early voting period began on Monday, but reports are emerging of people being turned away from pre-poll stations across the state. On Wednesday morning AutismNSW alerted the NSW Electoral Commission that the online button for iVote was not working."The NSW Electoral Commission has detected a performance issue with its electronic roll mark-off system," the commission's spokesman said. The spokesman said voting centres were still open and the issue would be resolved soon."There are backup arrangements in each early voting centre to allow voters to have their names marked off the roll," he said.

People who are sick, working or travelling on March 23 can cast an early vote. Those who do not vote at the state election will be fined $55. People who will be away or have a disability can apply to use the iVote system, which allows them to vote online or over the phone.
