The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria and indigenes of Eleme in Rivers State have called on the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari , to urgently fix the deplorable Eleme section of the East-West Road, which was shut down on Monday by protesting youths.

The youth, who displayed placards with various inscriptions, began the protest as early as 5am and barricaded the Akpajo, Aleto and refinery roads, prevented entry by motorists and commuters to their work places, while hundreds of other road users were stranded. Our correspondent reports that hundreds of commuters resorted to trekking long distances as the entire stretch of the failing road was completely blocked.

The leader of the protesters, Prince Okeke, said the road had claimed many lives as the Federal Government had abandoned it for decades and called for urgent intervention.
