How Sanwo-Olu allegedly rescued Mike Dada’s AFRIMA

The African Union Commission and the International Committee of AFRIMA have announced that the 6th edition of the All Africa Music Awards will be hosted in Lagos from November 20 to November 23,2 019, in association with the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture.

This news will come as a big relief to the President of AFRIMA, Mike Dada, as it had been alleged that the organisers were thrown into confusion when the Ghanaian government pulled out from hosting another edition of the continental ceremony. In an interview, the Ghanaian Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Barbara Oteng Gyasi, said that the withdrawal of her ministry from AFRIMA was due to unsuccessful industry collaboration – discontentment from many industry players in the creative arts industry because of the contractual financial obligations.

Social Circuit gathered that after Ghana pulled out from hostingthe awards ceremony for three years – 2018 to 2020, the organisers panicked. When all efforts were fruitless, it was learnt that the president of AFRIMA approached the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who came to their rescue. AFRIMA is a youth-focused music event that celebrates Africa, recognises and rewards the work and talents of a myriad of African artists across generations. The 6th edition will continue in the tradition of a four-day fiesta of music, glamour and entertainment.
