How rape survivors can avoid long-term health issues —Physicians
Experts have called for early psychological counselling and proper treatment for survivors of rape to avert serious long term health consequences.
The professor explained, “Survivors of rape carry that burden throughout their lives. Some of them drastically change their attitude to sex. Some of the women become frigid. “There must be a special arrangement made to organise psychosocial therapy for survivors of rape so that they will disabuse their minds that all men are bad and to also disabuse their minds that all men are rapists, including their husbands.”
The CMD urged mothers to ensure that the environment is safe for their female children, as part of measures to reduce their risk of rape and sexual violence. “The offence is one that needs to be discouraged. Men should know that the consequences of rape will be very serious. But I don’t agree that men should be castrated when they commit the crime.
“They suffer emotionally because an incident like this happens to them without being prepared for it and this affect them all through their lives.
