Head to the Crestridge Ecological Reserve in El Cajon for an easy hike through oak trees and coastal sage scrub
Hikers will find serenity and new knowledge while hiking on this well-marked trail at the Crestridge Ecological Reserve, passing by shady oak trees and a picture-worthy ridgeline. This roughly 1.6-mile easy hike, located in the unincorporated community of Crest just outside El Cajon, follows three trails and features interactive elements on the way.
Today, the nonprofit Earth Discovery Institute uses the kiosk to teach, host events and provide trail information. Note, however, that the building may be closed when hikers visit. Next to the building, there is a sign for a trail — the Kid's Loop — that begins to wind up and beyond the kiosk. Along the way, pass under coast live oak trees and alongside the coastal sage scrub habitat. Eventually, hikers will reach an intersection.
