Herdsmen have allegedly killed at least 10 farmers in Avwon, Agadama, Ohoror and other communities of Uwheru Kingdom in Ughelli North council area of Delta State, in renewed clashes.
It was gathered that the victims were killed in different locations across the communities on Thursday and Friday.learnt that combined search efforts by the community members and military personnel led to the recovery of 10 bodies midday Saturday.
Government officials who are natives of the affected communities stated that the herdsmen unleash their onslaught at will. Governor of Delta state, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa, has condemned the killings. He also called for calm on the part of the communities. The statement read, “according to reports from the communities, herdsmen accompanied by unidentified army personnel stormed the communities in an unprovoked attack that has become an annual routine, killed no fewer than eight persons and injured many others.
“I, however, appeal to the affected communities to remain calm and peaceful. I commiserate with the communities and families on the unfortunate loss of their loved ones.”
