GUNMEN on Friday in Sapele area, Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State killed two members of a vigilance group in the community.
gathered that the incident which happened on Thursday night led to burning of tyres along the major streets at Amukpe by angry youths in protest of the continued insecurity in the town.
An eyewitness account noted that a Venza car intercepted a Hilux van of the vigilantes at the Amukpe motor park area and its occupants started at those in the Hilux van. The eyewitness said, “The driver of the Hilux, in an attempt to evade the gunfire, tried to escape but rather ran into the pole of one of the streetlights along the road. The hoodlums drove to where the Hilux van was stuck and started shooting the occupants, killing the Amukpe vigilance group Chairman identified only as Mr Glory and the other occupant whose name was given as Mr Gift. The youth are angry over the situation and the insecurity in the town.
Another witness who also spoke on condition of anonymity said the Venza car was among the ones seen at community road and NDDC road the night residents of the area were robbed.
