With about 72 hours to the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly, a support organisation in the All Progressives Congress under the aegis of Progressive Support Group on Saturday charged the House of Representatives members-elect and Nigerians to reject attempts by the ruling party to impose a leadership on the legislature.

The organisation said the advice became necessary to avoid truncating of the nation’s democracy and pocketing of the parliament away from meeting their constituted roles to the electorate.

The spokesperson for the group, Silas Wettok, in a statement, called on the lawmakers to consider national interest of the country first, maintaining that Nigeria was bigger than any political group or individual. Wettok urged members-elect to throw their weight behind the member representing Biu/Bayo/Shani Federal Constituency of Borno State, Hon. Muktar Aliyu Betara, for the position of Speaker in the 10th National Assembly. All rights reserved.
