s, Godswill Akpabio, about two weeks ago. You remember that, last week, we treated some grammatical blunders – common ones – committed during the deliberations. These include ‘off the mic’ and ‘is okay’.
Now, the two statements above might not be major, but we are exploiting them to start today’s lesson. The problem with the first is what obtains when some people say ‘one of the boy’, instead of ‘one of the boys’. So, when the lawmaker involved asked, ‘Which of the budget?’, he had left out the vital ‘s’ needed after ‘budget’. Because he was referring to one of some other budgets, he should simply have asked, ‘Which of the budgets?’.
As we have treated in this class, the correct expression in the context under consideration is ‘elder brother’ or ‘older brother’, not ‘senior brother’. We use elder or older to express family relationships but senior and junior normally in official or office relationships:I learnt that Peter is Jude’s junior brother. That means she is a junior colleague to him. The last expression we are taking from the assembly floor is ‘knowing fully well’.
It adds: “Used in a situation where someone knows something but does not act according to what they know.”
