JOHOR BARU: The Home Ministry is planning to increase the number of counters available at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex here.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said that this was part of the government’s preparation to welcome thousands of travellers when Malaysia and Singapore fully open the border between the two nations.

“It is better for us to make the necessary steps as part of our preparation when our border with Singapore is fully open,” he said at a press conference after visiting the CIQ Complex here on Sunday . Currently, the CIQ Complex has 77 counters for cars , 100 counters for motorcycles and 11 lorry counters .

He added the NIISE not only incorporates biometrics but also facial recognition that would help the authorities identify potential suspects.
