Governor Adeleke Should Set Up Special Unit To Tackle Contamination Of Iconic Osun River – Urban Alert GroupWater sources in the state have also been extensively poisoned with mercury, lead, and cyanide as a result of illegal mining .
The contamination of the 213km iconic Osun River has continued to take centre stage in conversations around environmental degradation, the group alleged. Accusing the state and federal governments of insincerity in ending the ongoing contamination of water bodies in the state, Urban Alert said in a statement issued by its Communication Officer, Titilade Alayande, that the government was encouraging miners to violate the state's existing environmental pollution laws.
