Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State swore in the 44 elected local government chairmen and 484 counsellors in Kano on Sunday, with an urgent directive to them to resume offices on Monday.

The elected officials took the oath of office, administered to them by the state Commissioner of Justice, Barrister Haruna Isa Dederi, at the Kano State Government House. The elaborate ceremony, which attracted thousands of the New Nigeria Peoples Party supporters, was held at Africa House, Government House, in the presence of Governor Yusuf .
