Gov poll: We’ve not dumped use of card readers, says inecnigeria
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus OkoyeThe Independent National Electoral Commission has described as false, allegations that it is selective in the use of smart card readers in its conduct of the 2019 general elections.
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday said the use of the smart card readers was mandatory. He said failure to use them would attract sanctions. “These allegations have led to speculations that INEC may be forced to jettison their use in the March 9, 2019 governorship, state houses of assembly and Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections.
Meanwhile, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Niger State, Prof Samuel Egwu, has warned communities against refusing to use smart card readers during Saturday’s governorship and House of Assembly elections, stating that they will be doing so at their own risk.
