Around 3am on Friday, April 17, 2020, police officers attached to the Lagos State security outfit, Rapid Response Squad, patrolling in Ikoyi area of Lagos during the COVID-19 lockdown came across a distressed 35-year-old Daniel Innocent, an indigene of Benue State. Innocent told them that his wife was in labour at home and that he had no means of getting her to the hospital. Moved by his condition, the police drove him to his house to pick up his wife and neighbour and took them to the hospital.

The labour started around 2am. About 3am, I became very worried and ran out to look for another solution because it was during the lockdown ordered by the Federal Government because of coronavirus. I could not get any vehicle to take my wife to the hospital in Obalende where she was registered. As I was contemplating what to do next, a police team on patrol accosted me and asked what I was looking for. I told them about my wife and that there was no vehicle to take her to hospital.

At the time your wife was falling into labour and you didn’t know how to get her to the hospital, what was going through your mind?
