German top government official, Helge Braun, on Tuesday, said the country’s coronavirus contact tracing app that had been made available for download in Germany was a cut above the rest.

He called on members of the public to download the app, developed by the government, the Robert Koch Institute for disease control and several private companies. The app is intended to facilitate tracking of COVID-19 chains with the aim of curbing the spread of the virus as Germany eases its lockdown rules.

According to Amnesty’s Claudio Guarnieri, Bahrain, Kuwait and Norway have run roughshod over people’s privacy, with highly invasive surveillance tools, which go far beyond what is justified in efforts to tackle COVID-19.German Health Minister, Jens Spahn, defended the delayed introduction of Germany’s official coronavirus app.“Overall, we are within the desired budget and timeframe,’’ Spahn said.
