BREAKING: Geoffrey Rush has won his defamation lawsuit over newspaper stories in the Daily Telegraph that accused the actor of inappropriate behaviour towards a colleague. 9News

Geoffrey Rush has been awarded $850,000 after winning his defamation lawsuit against Nationwide News over newspaper stories that accused the actor of inappropriate behaviour towards a colleague.

The 67-year-old actor sued the publisher and journalist Jonathon Moran over two stories and a poster published in the Daily Telegraph in late 2017. In Sydney's Federal Court today, Justice Michael Wigney found Rush had been defamed and awarded him $850,000 in aggravated damages.Justice Wigney found the reports to be "a recklessly irresponsible piece of sensational journalism of the worst kind, the very worst kind".

The articles contained allegations Rush had inappropriately touched and made sexual remarks towards an unnamed co-star, later revealed to be actress Eryn Jean Norvill. Justice Wigney dismissed the truth defence of Nationwide News and entertainment reporter Moran on all counts.
