The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Tuesday held a virtual meeting with speakers of state Houses of Assembly in a bid to ensure that all states in Nigeria domesticated t
he Child Rights Act and the Violence Against Persons Act., was moderated by the Chairman of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development, Adewunmi Onanuga, with the speakers of Bauchi, Ekiti, Delta, Edo and Plateau states, among others, in attendance.
A statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Lanre Lasisi, quoted him as saying in his opening address that the meeting was convened to address sexual and gender-based violence. In the statement, the Speaker, Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Suleiman, who is also the Chairman, North-East States’ Speakers, said the VAPP Act was currently at the public hearing stage in the state.
