The Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Pensions, Mr Bamidele Salam, speaks withabout the plan by the Federal Government to use pension funds to finance infrastructure and how such plan will affect workers and retirees
NECA has said the Federal Government should look elsewhere, especially the loot it has recovered. Why must it be pension fund? That is possible, I may not know. Government will list the various sources of income it has and, of course, bonds and securities are known as areas where government can also raise capital for its expenditure. I may not have the details of whether this specific one was forwarded to the House for approval. But I am not sure that there is an obligation on the part of the executive to do that. The law allows the holders of the account to invest the funds in the interest of the owners of the money.
Is it possible for your committee to probe a state government, like in the case Osun, for not paying like you just cited?
