Andy Williams and John Smith now have four different micro pubs across the Wirral showcasing local cask ale

Two friends with no previous experience in the hospitality industry opened one of Merseyside's first micro pubs to make "good beer accessible to all".

He said he had been friends with John, who was a civil engineer, for years and the pair had a vision to create somewhere that celebrated good local beer in a warm and welcoming environment. Speaking to the ECHO from the Bow Legged Beagle's Bromborough micro pub, Andy said: "We are just big beer fans and were bored of drinking in pubs with really c***** beer.

"We've got to know the people behind these breweries over the years and they've become friends - we help them and they help us." However, after a handful of lean months the micro pub picked up two Campaign for Real Ale awards and found itself as one of the best spots on Merseyside for good beer and good conversation, while surrounded by lots of four legged friends. Andy and John opened their Upton pub in 2018, followed by their Bromborough site about a week before the pandemic hit in 2020.

He added: "New Brighton is our most bohemian, while in Bromborough we wanted to do something different because we were competing against Greene King pubs who all served the same beer. Heswall is our first with a proper beer garden so has taken the most work but we're already really happy with how it's going."
