The President Muhammadu Buhari-led Nigerian government has paid lecturers under the umbrella of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) for 18 working days in the month of October. This was confirmed by some lecturers and senior members of ASUU who spoke to PUNCH on Thursday. SaharaReporter earlier reported how ASUU called off its eight-month-old strike on October 14, 2022, where lecturers were encouraged to resume to work by the union on that same day.

It seems the government is set to kill unionism in the country but we are ready for them.” The Nigerian government had filed a suit before the industrial court against ASUU, and in a judgment on the Nigerian government's interlocutory injunction, Justice Polycarp Hamman stopped ASUU from continuing with the strike until the case was resolved.
