France partnered with West African and European countries on Friday, launching a coalition to fight Islamic terrorists in the Sahel region.
The European country hoped that more political cooperation and special forces troops would boost a military effort that had so far failed to stifle violence.reported that the formation of the coalition was first announced at a summit in January and six months later, a virtual meeting was held with 45 defence and foreign ministers across West Africa and Europe.“Today in the Sahel, victory is possible.
To combat Islamist insurgencies, France has deployed around 5,100 soldiers in the arid region south of the Sahara Desert since 2013.All rights reserved.
