Photo: Chukwudi AkasikeFORMERS president of the Nigerian Bar Association, Chief Onueze Okocha, SAN, and a civil society organisation have disagreed over the demolition of two hotels in Eleme and Onne by the Rivers State Government.

Okocha also explained that the Executive Orders signed by the governor were appropriate and advised anyone uncomfortable with them to go to court. “Indeed, a task force was sent to remind them about the Executive Order put in place by the governor and they got their thugs and some local boys to beat members of the task force. So, the governor left with no other option wielded the big stick.”

The group further said, “No governor has the powers to make any order infringing human rights. Section 4 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria vested on the National Assembly the power to make laws.
