A retired Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Hakeem Odumosu has denied being appointed as the substantive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). This comes after reports on Tuesday said President Bola Tinubu had appointed the former Lagos police commissioner to replace the former substantive chairman of the anti-corruption body, Abdulrasheed Bawa.

Odumosu on Wednesday said, “Good Morning everyone, I have been inundated with so many calls and messages between yesterday and today on a purported “EFCC Appointment”., I just want to use this opportunity to debunk this information and say it’s totally untrue.”According to a release from the presidency on, Bawa’s suspension is “to allow for proper investigation into his conduct while in office. This follows weighty allegation of abuse of office leveled against him.
