Lawrence Obisakin cautions the Nigerian government against careless language regarding its neighbor, Niger Republic, amidst escalating tensions fueled by allegations of collusion between Nigeria and France.
A former Nigeria 's Ambassador to Niger Republic , Lawrence Obisakin has warned the Tinubu administration to handle the Nigeria -Niger situation carefully. DAILY POST reports that the Nigeria n Government had recently rejected the allegations made in a viral video by the military leader of Niger Republic , General Abdourahamane Tchiani. Recall that in the viral video, the military leader claimed a collusion between Nigeria and France to destabilize his country.
This led to a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Ambassador Nurain Abayomi Mumuni advising President Tinubu to involve the African Union or United Nations in order to douse tension. The Nigerian government denied ever engaging in any overt or covert alliance with France - or any other country. It said President Tinubu as Chairman of the ECOWAS has demonstrated exemplary leadership, keeping the doors of the sub-regional body open to re-engaging Niger Republic despite the political situation in the country. However, appearing on Channels Television on Sunday, Obisakin warned that 'Nigeria needs to be careful in its utterances concerning its neighbours because in international relations you can change your trading partners but not your neighbours.
