Former prime minister Julia Gillard’s carbon price, subsequently legislated, survived less than three years.on Sunday morning, Pocock said he has been open in declaring he wants an interim target higher than 43 per cent on the way to net zero.“But my sense is that what Australians really want is a target to be legislated. We have to actually bank some of these gains and I want to see a target with integrity”.
“The public has just rejected this kind of hairy-chested ‘my way or the highway’ approach to climate that Labor is now taking. People want us to work together and the Greens are up for discussions about getting good climate laws passed, but it seems Labor isn’t,” Bandt said at the time. He did not outline potential other amendments to the legislation, because it has not been released yet.
