The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, says the response of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government to the flood menace ravaging the country was slow. In the last few days, floods have wreaked havoc on communities across Nigeria, leading to killings and displacement of many people. Reacting in a series of tweets on Tuesday, Sowore wondered why government agencies responsible for emergency were not proactive.

Reacting in a series of tweets on Tuesday, Sowore wondered why government agencies responsible for emergency were not proactive. “Many Nigerian communities are currently flooded. Over 600 have been killed, 800k displaced , 45k houses destroyed, & over 70k hectares of farmland ruined. NLNG has also declared a force majeure on gas production over high floodwater,” he tweeted.
“It is to this end, I sincerely sympathize with those who have lost their loved ones, homes and livelihood and I call for immediate response to arrest this terrible situation and at relief be offered to victims without any further delay.
