Ahead of what is expected to be another thrilling weekend in the Nigeria Premier Football League, DAILY POST presents key questions…This is certainly the biggest game of the weekend. Group A leaders, Bendel Insurance travelling to Ikenne to face Remo Stars.
Insurance trounced the Sky Blue 3-0 when both teams met earlier in the campaign at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City. It was Remo Stars’ first defeat of the season. Daniel Ogunmodede’s side will not only want to avenge that defeat but put an end to Insurance’s unbeaten streak.Another big fixture coming up this weekend is the encounter between former champions Plateau United and Akwa United at the New Jos Stadium.Akwa United are unbeaten in their eight NPFL games and will be desperate to extend the run.
Both teams endured disappointing results last weekend. Plateau United lost 2-1 away to Enyimba, while Akwa United were held to a 2-2 draw at home by Nasarawa United.Lobi Stars have established a six-point lead at the top of the Group B table and look good to secure a place in the Super Six.With the likes of Rivers United, Niger Tornadoes and Doma United on their trail, it will be interesting to see how the Makurdi club copes under pressure.
Edith Agoye’s side are without a win in their last three games. It remains to be seen if they can end the run against Abia Warriors in Umuahia on Sunday.
