A final year Higher National Diploma student at the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, Monday Odogbor, has reportedly died in an auto crash.
It was learnt that two other students also sustained serious injuries in the crash which occurred around 9pm on Thursday along the road leading to the institution.
“They wanted to overtake another vehicle when their car lost control and veered off the road. It ran into a palm tree in front of African House. One of them identified as Monday died on the spot,” one of the sources said. A management staff member of the institution, who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, confirmed the incident, adding that the institution would make an official statement through the office of the Students’ Affair.Meanwhile, an oil worker was on Friday killed in a multiple crash involving a cement-laden truck, an oil company truck and about five other vehicles on Ovia River Bridge along Benin-Ore Expressway.
A Federal Road Safety Corps official who spoke with City Round, said, “The incident happened around 7.45am and it was caused by a trailer conveying cement. The motor boy of the oil company truck died instantly and we have taken him to a mortuary.”
