FG to review Customs Duty on meters
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company has stated the Federal Government was working to resolve the issue of Customs Duty on meters.
Rising from a meeting with the Minister of State for Power, Mr. Goddy Jedy Agba, the Managing Director, Mr. Ernest Mupwaya, said: “I am glad to inform you that the government is waiting now to resolve this issue so that meters can be available.”He noted that the government is rather seeking ways of revamping them.
His words: ” I don’t think anybody is thinking of dismantling DisCos or revamping them we are thinking of adding to them to make them better not to dismantle or revamp them.”But the firm sought his support in the review of Customs Duty on meters to meet its customers’ demand. He said “One of the issues we brought to the Minister’s notice is that issue of Customs Duty for meters so that we can meet our customers.
He said the AEDC management also brought the issue of Ministries, Departments and Agencies payments of debt to the minister. On metering, he said the company “has the capacity of installing 3,000 meters daily but we are constrained because thousands of meters are stagnant at the ports because of import duty.”
