The Federal Government has plans to begin a post-Amnesty Initiative, where industrial clusters would be established across the nine states of the Niger Delta region to engage youth that graduated from
its Amnesty Programme.
Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, who disclosed this on Friday during his visit to the headquarters of the Niger Delta Development Commission in Port Harcourt, stated that the programme would end someday and the youths might be forced to fall back on the NDDC.Explaining that all the nine Niger Delta states would have the industrial clusters, Akpabio pointed out that a provision would be made for the implementation of the plan in the 2020 budget.
Akpabio stated that the mission of his ministry and that of the NDDC were similar, adding that this has made it necessary for everybody to work with one accord. He said, “All the nine Niger Delta states will have the industrial clusters that can absorb between 1,000 and 2,000 youths with different skills. We are going to provide for this in the 2020 budget of the NDDC. The Ministry and the Commission will collaborate to realize this goal.”
