A breakdown of daily figures from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control shows that Nigeria recorded fewer cases, less deaths and more recoveries last week compared to the previous week

, writes Associate EditorAfter five months of managing coronavirus crisis, a global pandemic that has resulted in more than 18 million infections and close to 700,000 deaths worldwide, Nigeria is gradually returning into normalcy. Amidst caution, restrictions on movement and gatherings are gradually being lifted both the federal and state governments, as economic activities, schools, restaurants, religious homes and other activities slowly regain their full bloom.

Compared with figures posted on August 1, the number of new cases recorded on July 31 was higher. However, in terms of fatality and recovery rates, only one person was reported dead throughout the country on July 31 as opposed to 4 deaths on August 1. Only 295 people were discharged on July 31 unlike 522 on August 1. The 462 confirmed cases were reported in 16 states: FCT , Lagos , Plateau , Kaduna , Oyo , Ondo , Adamawa , Bauchi , Delta , Ogun , Rivers , Edo , Enugu , Kano , Nasarawa and Osun .

On Wednesday July 29, Nigeria recorded 404 confirmed cases from 20 states: Lagos , FCT , Rivers , Plateau , Edo , Enugu , Oyo , Kano , Ondo , Ogun , Ebonyi , Ekiti , Kaduna , Cross River , Kwara , Anambra , Delta , Imo , Nasarawa and Borno . This was less than 481 cases recorded on July 30. Two hundred and forty cases were discharged on July 29 in 11 states: Edo , Rivers , Kaduna , Oyo , Lagos , Bayelsa , Osun , FCT , Gombe , Kwara and Imo .
