The secretary to the government of the federation, Boss Mustapha, has warned board members of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative
He gave the warning on Thursday during the inauguration of the national stakeholders working group of NEITI in Abuja.
According to him, the present administration is passionate about the EITI process because it serves two key agendas of the administration. Mustapha noted that the extractive industry is very strategic to Nigeria’s economy, hence it is central to the administration’s economic agenda. He further explained that transparency and accountability in the management of the nation’s national resources were equally central to the anti-corruption agenda of Nigeria, and therefore irrevocably committed to the implementation of EITI in the oil, gas, and mining industries.
He said, “as members of this board, you must ensure that NEITI contnues to preserve these virtues for the benefit of all of us present here today and for future generations.“In order to achieve this, I must remind you that your assignment is non-partisan because NEITT itselt is non-political and has maintained dignified neutrality all through almost two decades of existence.
