FCT Minister Nyesom Wike revokes land allocations for non-payment of Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) bills, impacting prominent figures like governors, senators, and a commission chairman.

The Federal Capital Territory ( FCT ) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has taken a decisive action by revoking land allocations belonging to several prominent individuals across Nigeria. This move comes after an extended grace period expired for these individuals to settle their outstanding Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) bills for plots located in Maitama II, Cadastral Zone A10, Abuja.

\According to Lere Olayinka, media aide to the FCT Minister, a total of 568 land allottees had their Right of Occupancy (R-of-O) withdrawn due to their failure to meet the payment deadline. The list of affected individuals includes notable figures such as Bayelsa State Governor Senator Douye Diri, Imo State Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu. The action also impacted former Governor of Enugu State Chimaroke Nnamani, Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro, and Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa.\In October 2024, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) initially issued a notice to 3,273 allottees, setting a two-week ultimatum for them to settle their outstanding payments. While 2,511 allottees responded promptly, the remaining 762 were granted an additional two-week grace period. However, by January 15, 2025, only 194 of these allottees had completed their payments, leaving a significant number of 568 in default. The revocation notice issued by the FCTA cites Section 28 of the Land Use Act of 1978, which empowers the administration to withdraw land rights when allottees fail to adhere to the terms of the grant. The notice explicitly stated that title holders who had settled their payments by the deadline of January 15, 2025, were not affected by this revocation
