The family of a 16-year-old boy, Celestine Oke, has been thrown into mourning after he was killed by a stray bullet from the hoodlums’ gun on the day of the presidential and National Assembly election
s in the Iwaya area of Lagos.on Saturday, February 23, 2018, when the ‘Iwaya boys’ allegedly invaded the Oke Agbon community.
Ageh, who is the younger brother of the deceased’s father, said Oke started living with him when his father died, adding that he was a promising teenager with a bright future, who had a scholarship examination coming up soon. “I think the DPO tried reaching out to some of his men as a patrol team came to the area. On sighting the patrol team, the hoodlums retreated. The patrol team waited briefly to restore peace but as soon as it left, the hoodlums resumed fighting.
“What the police always try to do is to maintain peace in the territories. In our own area, we usually apprehend troublemakers and hand them over to the police; eventually, they are released so soon to wreck more havoc. One of the guys arrested recently ran away with his hands cuffed.
