A woman, Omotola Awotunde, has been remanded in custody by an Osun State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Osogbo for not wearing a face mask.
Omotola, who was arraigned alongside 98 others, had pleaded not guilty to one count of breach of public peace by not following laid down guidelines in respect of the COVID-19 pandemic as stipulated by the Osun State Government.
Out of the figure, 96 were sentenced to community service, while the other two, after conviction, were cautioned and released on health grounds. But counsel for the defendants, Mr Muyideen Adeleye and S. Adeoti, pleaded with the court to caution and pardon them since they were all first time offenders.
