Four climate protesters who blocked a major roadway in Brisbane for multiple hours with a canoe have been forcibly removed and arrested.
Two men and two women from the “Extinction Rebellion SEQ” group this morning placed the canoe on the Victoria Bridge in the city’s CBD about 7.30am and sat in it while waving protest placards.Four climate protesters who blocked a major roadway in Brisbane for multiple hours with a canoe have been forcibly removed and arrested.
“Extinction Rebellion activists have blocked this major Brisbane bridge in peak hour to disrupt the business as usual that is killing us,” a social media post from the group said this morning. “The boat used is to draw attention to the millions of climate refugee's that are already starting to suffer from desertification and rising oceans.”
A Queensland Police spokesman told 9News.com.au officers who attended the scene moved on the protesters and the canoe from the road, while traffic continued to bank up.
