A former Benue State Governor, Senator Gabriel Suswam, has reaffirmed his interest in replacing Ambassador Umar Illyya Damagum as the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party .According to Suswam, the North Central region has the constitutional right to fill the vacant position previously held by Dr. Iyorchia Ayu. He said his stance is supported by the PDP constitution, which outlines the process for filling vacant positions.
According to him, the selection would not be done through elections, but rather through a consensus-building process among party stakeholders.Suswam expressed concerns about sabotage and damage inflicted on the party by some members masquerading as leaders. He cited the purported congresses in the state as an example of rascality, leading to the party's comprehensive defeat in the last polls.
