The former Chairman of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria in Niger State, Aliyu Lafine, has accused commercial banks for the scarcity of new naira notes.

He said, “We are already facing the issues now. My concern is that in Nigeria, we hardly take things seriously. Although the Central Bank has its own lapses, this window has been open since October. “Unfortunately from things we have observed, it seems that even the commercial banks are not in tune with what the central bank is doing because the situation we found ourselves in is directly or indirectly sabotaged from the side of banks.

“As for CBN, one can say they have done their best, they have actually transmitted the new currency to the commercial banks but the banks took the advantage and embarked upon what we call insider digging, leaving the populace at the mercy of either losing their money.” He however expressed concern over the situation of the unbanked and artisans across the country; calling on the federal government’s intervention.

“I believe if the date is not extended, there will be a window for most of the vulnerable to be able to exchange the currency,” he added. All rights reserved.
