Luton Town manager Rob Edwards has admitted that he played Fred Onyedinma out of position on his Premier League debut against Tottenham Hotspur this past weekend. Onyedinma played his very first game for the Hatters since the Championship playoff final win against Coventry City on May 27.
The player was recalled from his loan spell at Rotherham United because he fell out of favour after recovering from injury. Onyedinma operates predominantly as a winger but can also play as a midfielder. Luton Town are facing an injury crisis with Chiedozie Ogbene, Gabriel Osho and Elijah Adebayo all sidelined.
Onyedinma was asked to play in the defence due to an injury crisis at the left-back position after a defender picked up an injury. Edwards told Luton Town's official website, 'I look at how we finished the game with that back four of Freddy, that's his first taste of football for us who is a winger at left-back and two right-backs on the pitch and once centre-back. 'It's difficult against a team of that calibre. Of course, it becomes a big challenge.
