Former Liverpool winger, Jermaine Pennant has slammed Cristiano Ronaldo for failing to apologise to his manager, teammates and fans over his ‘arrogant’ behaviour during their 2-0 win over Tottenham.Ronaldo was said to have refused to come on as a substitute during the game and later walked down the Old Trafford tunnel before the end of the match and left the stadium straight away.
Manchester United’s statement on Thursday said that the Portuguese would be dropped for the match against Chelsea this weekend as part of his punishment. The former Real Madrid and Juventus star himself then released a statement in the hours after that saying ‘sometimes the heat of the moment gets the better of us’.
Pennant told talkSPORT: “Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic. At the end of the day, be a man and own up to your mistakes. Say ‘hands up, I messed up here and I sincerely apologise to firstly my teammates, my manager, the club and the fans’.Pennant noted that the Portuguese’s statement failed below standard, adding that he should have used the statement to put himself back into the team instead of saying how he has done this or done that.
