Arsenal are being prevented from formalising their interest in Newcastle United striker, Alexander Isak, as they cannot afford his asking price, according to Goal. Gunners boss, Mikel Arteta, is looking to add more firepower as they seek to win the Premier League title.
Isak is believed to be Arteta's main target, as he is Premier League proven. The Swede has already scored 15 times this season, with his last goal coming against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg. Isak ’s representatives are aware of the interest from north London. It is, however, being claimed that Arsenal do not have the funds to finance what would be a British transfer record deal.
A potential transfer would be one worth more than the £115 million Chelsea paid for Moises Caicedo in 2023. Arsenal are not under any threat from Financial Fair Play, FFP, or Profit and Sustainability Rules, PSR, but need to ensure that they adhere to those regulations. No offers for Isak - in January or the summer of 2025 - will be possible unless there is a significant departure first that generates a sizeable fee and clears a big wage off the books.
