A public interest and human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, has described as insane the recent increment in electricity tariffs. Effiong claimed it could only happen under a President who is divorced from the suffering of the citizens.

In a post on his X handle on Saturday, the legal expert alleged that 'President Bola Tinubu ’s lack of empathy is gross and appalling.' Recall that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, had approved a N225 per Kilowatt electricity tariff hike for customers in Band A within urban areas.

Reacting to the development, Effiong suggested that the President is divorced from the suffering of the citizens, adding that he had fear of unprecedented state capture and lack of empathy. He said: 'The two main fears that I had about a Tinubu presidency were: 'Unprecedented State capture and lack of empathy; 'The insane increment in electricity tariffs can only happen under a President who is divorced from the suffering of the citizens.
