Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi has directed a random sampling test for pupils and teachers to assess their risk level of COVID-19 infection ahead of schools’ resumption.
The governor expressed optimism that COVID-19 protocols would be strictly adhered to as pupils of Senior Secondary School class preparing for West African Examinations Council will resume August 10.Fayemi, in a statewide broadcast yesterday, added that parents of the resuming students are to provide their wards with at least two face masks each as a prerequisite for admittance into their school premises.
Fayemi attributed increase in cases to the random community testing exercise, which was made possible with facilities at the state-owned laboratory and the proximity to states with high incidences of confirmed infections. Fayemi disclosed that his administration had distributed over 60,000 food packs to the poor and vulnerable in its drive to cushion the negative effect of COVID-19 pandemic.
