Eight political parties on Wednesday in Kano signed a peace accord to ensure peaceful conduct of the 2023 general elections.
The event was co-chaired by Emeritus Prof Ibrahim Umar and the Catholic Bishop of Kano, Bishop John Niyiring.
In an interview, Niyiring said, “Signing of a peace accord is not a joke, it must be respected, and they are morally bound to abide by what they have signed, to maintain peace, as well as work peacefully with their supporters. “We don’t want a situation that is happening in some parts of the state in terms of violence to resurface in Kano. That is the essence of signing the peace accord.”
In his remarks, a former Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria in the state, Rev. Samuel Adeyemo, who highlighted the importance of peace, pointed out that elections cannot hold where there is no peace, adding that peace is the ultimate to ensure a peaceful conduct of the elections. All rights reserved.
