An Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) operative, Salisu, was tragically killed during a raid on suspected internet fraudsters, known as 'Yahoo boys,' in Awka, Anambra state. The incident occurred when the suspect refused to open his door, leading to a violent confrontation where Salisu was fatally shot. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Salisu succumbed to his injuries. The suspect has been apprehended by the police, and investigations are ongoing.
An operative of the Economic and Financial Crime s Commission ( EFCC ), Salisu, who was shot dead by suspected fraudsters, commonly known as ' Yahoo boys' in Anambra state has been flown to Sokoto State for burial. Recall that on Friday, the operative was shot by the suspected fraudsters in the Awka area of the state. The EFCC operative was part of a team assigned from the EFCC Enugu Zonal command to apprehend suspected internet fraudsters in Awka.
The team had successfully raided and arrested several persons with exhibits, including credit cards and four luxurious vehicles, before proceeding to another location. However, things reportedly turned deadly when the suspect refused to open his door, suspecting that the operatives might be robbers or kidnappers. 'The EFCC team proceeded to break into his apartment and the suspect opened fire on the lead person; an EFCC operative known as Salisu.' He was seriously injured, but still alive with a second operative injured in his left hand. The operatives rushed the operative to a hospital. They arrived at the General Hospital in Awka but there were no doctors. Only two hospital nurses were around who advised them to look for a private hospital,' a source said. Meanwhile, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Olufemi Oluyede, reportedly visited Awka to arrange for the transportation of the EFCC operative's body to Sokoto State for burial according to Islamic rites. The Anambra State Police Command spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that investigations were underway and that the suspect was in custody, with the firearm recovered
