The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Wednesday grilled a former Governor of Nasarawa State, Tanko Al-Makura, and his wife, Mairo Al-Makura, over alleged breach of public trust and misappropriation of billions of naira by his administration.
The couple were reportedly invited to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, where they were interrogated for hours about their alleged involvement in embezzlement of Nasarawa State funds between 2011 and 2019. It was gathered that the Almakuras could not provide satisfactory explanations on some contracts and finances of the state.Al-Makura served as Nasarawa State governor between 2011 and 2019 before he was elected into the National Assembly as Senator representing Nasarawa South Senatorial District.
