Traders at the popular Lagos Street Market, Benin City, Edo State, lost goods worth millions of naira to Saturday fire which started around 11am.

“I lost almost over a hundred million naira to the fire because I deal in jewelries,” she said.

She called on the state government and well-meaning Nigerians to come to her aid. “I want the government and all Nigerians to come to my aid,” she said. One of the sympathisers, Obina Obi, blamed the the Edo State Fire Service for not coming on time adding that if they had come on time, they would have been able to salvage the situation.

“We called the fire service, they didn’t pick their calls. The fire started very little. If fire fighters came early, they would have been able to save the situation,” he added.All rights reserved.
