An Assets Verification Committee in Edo State, Nigeria, has accused the previous administration of committing fraud in project execution, particularly in the Radisson Hotel, Edo State Oil Palm Project, and Edo State ICTA.

The Edo State Assets Verification Committee, established by Governor Monday Okpebholo, has revealed extensive fraud in project execution by the previous administration of Godwin Obaseki . The committee announced this at a press conference, presenting interim findings on verified assets. Dr.

Ernest Afolabi Umakhihe, the committee chairman, identified projects with alleged fraud as the Radisson Hotel, Edo State Oil Palm Project, and Edo State Information Communication Technology Agency (ICTA), among others. Umakhihe stated that the Radisson Hotel project's transactions raise serious concerns. He explained that the state government initiated the project by raising over N17.5 billion from the stock market and paid N2 billion for land acquisition. He noted that just before the previous administration's departure, ownership changed, leaving Edo State, the core investor, with only 20 percent ownership. Umakhihe asserted that the state government should reclaim its primary role as the core investor and owner of the Radisson Hotel. He added that the committee would provide more details in its final report. The committee also observed that the previous administration created agencies to execute specific interest-driven projects. Umakhihe mentioned the Edo State Oil Palm Project Office as one such agency, alleging that its opaque approach led to the utilization of consultants with substantial financial commitments made by the past government
