The verbal war between the Edo State Government and the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, remains unabated, as both sides are once again at odds over the state of the government-owned newspaper, The Nigerian Observer.
reports that Governor Monday Okpebholo, on Tuesday, threatened to probe the immediate past administration of Godwin Obaseki over the alleged $10 million spent on the newspaper and its facilities. PDP, however, criticised Okpebholo, stating that he still speaks like a stranger more than four months after being sworn into office.
also reports that Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Okpebholo, in a statement issued in Benin City, titled 'Gov Okpebholo to Probe Obaseki over $10m Spent on Observer Newspaper', noted that the governor lamented his inability to access the newspaper’s facilities. Itua said the governor made the threat while leading top officials of his administration on an unscheduled visit to the premises of The Nigerian Observer to inspect the facilities.
