The lawmakers’ invitation was sequel to a motion on matters of urgent public importance moved by the chairman, House Committee on Infrastructure and Deputy Leader of the House, Marcus Onobun.
Moving the motion, Onobun decried the deplorable state of the Benin-Auchi highway, pointing out the economic hardship and manhours lost by road-users plying the highway, which he said was further compounded by the rainy season. The motion generated heated discourse among members who emphasised the need for the house to visit and assess the road, with a view to ascertaining reasons for the delay in its completion after over a decade.
EDHA speaker, Francis Okiye, directed the clerk to communicate the resolutions of the house to the relevant agencies. The state controller in the Federal Ministry of Works, state director of FERMA and contractors handling the project – Reynolds Construction Company , Mothercat Construction Company as well as Dantata and Sawoe Construction Company – are to appear before the house on Monday, September 2, 2019 to explain the delay in the dualisation project.
